Welcome to Makhulu Game Lodge & Safari’s

We are a family based business and value family get-togethers. Come experience the bush in real African settings with lions not more than 50m away from where you are sleeping.
The Makhulu family invites you to come build memories with your loved ones. For the romantic hearted or sentimental soul, we have the most scenic sunsets, while sipping your sundowner. Makhulu is a malaria free area and this makes us a friendly destination beakaway spot for all ages.
Makhulu, which means 'BIG', offers tranquil infrastructure with its thatched roof buildings. Our main lodge offers impressive vistas decorated with African artefacts. Our reception area will welcome you with immediate challenges of wild identification.

Accommodation at Makhulu Game Lodge and Safaris

Self Catering Chalets
Makhulu Game Lodge & Safari's has three thatched roof self catering chalets, each sleeping 4 guests.
The chalets have a fully equipped kitchen. All you need to bring is your own foord. The chalets have an open plan kithcen, dining and lounge area, and en-suite bathroom.
The layout of the chalets offers you complete privacy, but also gives you the opportunity to watch the lions, on the comfort of your own bed. You will never forget the experience of being awakened in the early morning by the roar of the 'big cats'.
Barbeque facilities are available at each chalet.

Rhino Camp
We have seven thatched roof self-catering chalets with en-suite, each unit can accommodate two guests.
These units share a fully equipped kitchen. The canvas around the kitchen can open or close, according to the weather.

Elephant Camp
Elephant Camp consists of seven small thatched roof chalets, each accommodating 2 guests. There are 3 ablution facilities for this camp.
These units share a fully equipped kitchen. In summer we open the canvas around the kitchen for stunning views of the bush and game at the waterhole.

Barbeque facilities are available at each camp. Breakfast, lunch, picnic baskets or dinner can be pre-arranged with Makhulu Game Lodge & Safaris.

Hunting

Makhulu Game Lodge & Safari’s is situated in the Free State province of South Africa. Makhulu provides hunters an opportunity to an unforgettable experience and to hunt a wide selection of game on our 24 700 acre concession. You will be met at the Kimberley Airport by a Makhulu representative and driven to the lodge. Our client's personal needs are important to us ensure a memorable African experience with Makhulu.

Makhulu Game Lodge & Safari's is the perfect destination venue for your special day. Situated in the Boshof area, the tranquil environment and the roar of the lion will be just one of the memories that will last forever.

Weddings

With its own thatched chapel on site, this is the ideal romantic place to get married. The chapel can seat approximately 140 people and there is ample opportunity to take beautiful pictures in the immediate vicinity of the chapel. Our magnificent thatch roof venue seats 200 guests comfortably. We also cater for your reception and there is ample accommodation available for all your guests.

Lion Cub Interaction

Experience the thrill of interacting with our lion cubs. You can bottle-feed and play with the cubs, if available.
