The Ann Van Dyk Cheetah Centre - Conservation sanctuary for Cheetahs and other endangered animals situated in Brits, North West

The Ann Van Dyk Cheetah Centre in South Africa was established in 1971, as a cheetah conservation project. The centre has continued to perform an important role in the preservation and protection of cheetahs and has bred over eight hundred cheetah cubs and relocated some two hundred and fifty wild cheetah over the past forty years. Various conservation projects have been initiated at the centre since its inception, including a successful african wild dog conservation program.

Our conservation aims are:

  • To continue to play a role in conservation and the preservation of the cheetah and wild dog.
  • To support scientific investigations & research into all aspects of these endangered species.
  • To promote conservation through Education and to raise public awareness (particularly amongst the younger generation), of the pressing need for wildlife preservation.
  • To maintain a genetic pool by means of a scientifically based breeding programme.
  • To work on the long term survival and solutions for cheetah and wild dog.
  • To afford visitors to the Centre the opportunity to view these endangered species.

Today the Centre can be proud of the work being done to ensure the survival of acinonyx jubatus - the cheetah, successfully breeding these magnificent animals, including the famous King Cheetah in captivity. The Centre does not receive any government funding, and income generated from tours and the adoption programme is used to subsidise our conservation projects.

EDUCATION

CHEETA is the education division of The Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre. We believe that education is a vital part of the conservation process, and visits are made to various schools and organisations in different parts of the country. Schools can visit The Ann van Dyk Cheetah centre for informative tours and fun activities.

In 2003 the Centre launched its Outreach Education Programme, using the cheetah as a symbol of survival and sustainability to teach young people how to overcome challenges and to be catalysts in their communities for the preservation of natural resources and the improvement of their own lives. This project has touched the lives of over 100 000 learners since its start. In 2010 CHEETA was registered as a Section 18A Non Profit Organisation and works extensively in underprivileged communities.

CHEETA offers the following programmes: cheetah challenge (Outreach), corporate & school visits, tours at the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre and school holiday programmes.

Events Venue

On our farm at the Ann Van Dyk Cheetah Centre we have a beautiful area that we call our ‘Ostrich Area’, it boasts a breathtaking views of the Magaliesburg mountain range and is a large bush area with a few Nyala and Impala roaming around. This is the perfect setting for that nature or bush themed event and truly lends itself to African, relaxed décor.
